About clinical training
Last update : 22 Sep 2010

The Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) recognizes the participation of physicians in clinical training. These workshops can be a means of training adapted to their individual needs, which can improve the quality of medical care they provide.

 Objectives

  • To encourage general practitioners to define their educational needs, set learning objectives and choose the most successful method to achieve them
  • To contribute, by virtue of clinical training, to the continuing professional development of general practitioners

Fields of activity

The fields of activity have been selected based on their importance to general medicine and the extensive role general practitioners occupy within them. These physicians have acquired unique experience and skill sets in organizing and providing health care, and training peers.

Trainig environments

In general, training is given in health care institutions. In said institutions, the general practitioners have already participated in organizing quality educational activities and show a clear interest for continuing medical education.

Workshop leaders

These general practitioners or specialists are committed to spending the time and energy necessary to make the planned clinical training a success. They are recognized by their peers at their workplace and beyond for their competence and interest in continuing medical education.

Terms of participation

To take part in clinical training, general practitioners must already practice the medicine in question and wish to improve their knowledge of it. Prior to starting, they must identify their educational needs. Following this, they must determine their learning objectives, which will be carefully validated by the workshop leader. With the help of the workshop leader, they will develop a training program and select learning activities while defining their respective duration. This information will be sent to the FMOQ’s Director of Continuing Professional Development.

At the end of the training, both the leader and the participant agree to complete an evaluation; the leader will evaluate the participant, and the participant will evaluate the workshop. The Director of Continuing Professional Development must receive this final evaluation and an attestation of hours of activity completed, duly signed by the workshop leader.

Length of clinical training

Generally, the minimum length of clinical training is five days, given that one day comprises at least six hours of educational activities.

Accreditation by the FMOQ

The Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens will grant a general physician who completes clinical training and who meets all of the aforementioned terms of participation as many Category 1 training credits as the number of hours of educational activity attested to by the workshop leader. The doctor will also be eligible for resourcing measures or training funds, where available.

Fees

A fee of $50 plus taxes is charged for each application, which covers costs related to the examination and opening of a file. This amount is payable to the FMOQ upon receipt of an invoice. To complete your request, you must sent a copy of your license to practice issued by the Collège des médecins du Québec as well as a copy of your certificate of professional liability insurance. Please ensure that you have sufficient coverage for the activities held during the training in question.
