I would like to remind you that the agreement governing family doctors’ working conditions expired on March 31, 2010. Up until now, our very legitimate demands have unfortunately fallen on deaf ears within the Québec government, which continues to counter with inacceptable offers. Although the gross and net remuneration gap between family doctors and specialists has attained 57% and 78% respectively, and family medicine’s popularity is waning, the government’s refusal to offer competitive remuneration to family doctors is not only unacceptable, but also devoid of logic. >>>
To date, the Fédérations médicales Annual Golf Tournament has allowed us to donate close to $700,000 to the Quebec Physicians’ Health Program (QPHP) Foundation. This event continues to attract an increasing number of participants, partners and donors, and is ongoing proof of its relevance to all stakeholders. >>>
Evidently, it is out of the question to begin negotiations on the basis of such an offer, which perpetuates the insulting attitude governmental authorities hold toward family doctors. The government has clearly not understood the importance of this pivotal negotiation for the future of our health system and it completely failed to do its job of promoting family medicine and improving access to primary health care. >>>
