The events in the emergency room at the Centre hospitalier de Lachute (CSSS d’Argenteuil) on February 27, during which a general practitioner on duty was arrested and handcuffed in front of patients and colleagues, have understandably created a stir in the medical community. Like many doctors, I was deeply shocked by this unnecessary and incomprehensible arrest, especially since all indications are that the doctor in question behaved in a completely professional manner and had fully complied with the requirements of the law. >>>

The FMOQ has assumed its responsibilities in recent years by seizing every opportunity to argue that access to a family doctor and to healthcare management, and the continuity of care that results, should finally be made a real priority in Québec. Fortunately, our efforts, at least in some respects, seem to have borne fruit because all political parties in Québec are now talking about the importance of family medicine and making it their top priority in the health sector. However, it is still necessary to carefully analyze the underlying causes of the sometimes difficult access to primary care. >>>
