Learning objectives:
Upon completion of this program, participants will be better able to:

  • Appreciate the increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with type 2 diabetes and assess cardiovascular (CV) risk in these patients
  • Explain the efficacy and safety of antihyperglycemic agents with demonstrated CV benefit and the risk reduction associated with these agents
  • Understand the “twin goals” of CV protection and good glycemic control in type 2 diabetes
  • Implement Diabetes Canada’s (formerly the Canadian Diabetes Association’s) recent guideline update for secondary CVD prevention in patients with type 2 diabetes and understand the rationale for this update.
